Our last full day in King's Canyon.  Today was 'do anything you want day'. So, the girls elected to sleep in until noon or so.  Nick & I were up early, and we decided to go explore a little.  We ran into these deer, who were crossing the road. The girls had encountered deer on the first day when they went on a twilight walk.  When they returned to camp, Kelly told me that they came upon a stag and two bucks who were standing on the path in front of them. "So, what did the deer do?" I asked. She said, "They just stood there and looked at us." "And what did you do?" She replied, "We backed away very slowly."

Nick & I decided to go to Zumwalt Meadow and walk around there.  We were hoping to catch sight of some animals, as well as just explore some. At the trailhead there are some maps as this is a self- guided nature trail. We crossed this bridge on the way to the meadow.

View from the bridge-upriver and downriver.  We didn't last too long on the trail.  Unknown to us, this is prime breeding ground for mosquitoes, and they were soon swarming all over Nick.  I was constantly swatting them off of him, and he would have more than 5 on him at any one time.  With my hooded sweatshirt, I was better protected.  We decided we would have to explore Zumwalt at another time.

We also went to Grizzly Falls. You can see this waterfall from the road, and can walk right up to the base (like Nick in the picture on the left).  There are also some picnic tables, and a very rustic restroom that can be used, if you'd like to have a nice picnic and spend some time here.
